In India, one of the most popular jobs is RRB Group D. Many candidates appear for this exam every year. The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Group D exam is simply an entry-level central government exam in India. This exam is conducted across various regions in India. It simply offers stable government jobs in Indian Railways for posts such as Track Maintainer, Helper, Assistant Pointsman, and more.

It serves as the first and most competitive stage. In this article I only cover the CBT 1 marking scheme, section-wise syllabus, and preparation tips. RRB Group D Syllabus 2025 – Section-Wise Topics

Let’s take a closer look at the detailed syllabus for each section of the CBT 1 exam.

1. General Science

The questions are mostly based on the basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences, usually up to Class 10 level.

Follow the NCERT textbooks from Classes 6 to 10 to prepare the above.

2. Mathematics

Mathematics tests your numerical aptitude and problem-solving abilities. The question comes from a basic level.

Key Topics:

Make a proper practice schedule. Practice daily for at least 45 minutes with speed-based worksheets and timed mock tests.

3. General Intelligence & Reasoning

General intelligence is and reasoning tests your logical reasoning and analytical thinking. It includes both verbal and non-verbal reasoning types.

Follow R.S. Aggarwal’s book on reasoning. It is an authentic source.

4. General Awareness & Current Affairs

Your awareness of recent national and international events are important. Your basic knowledge of Indian polity, economy, history, and geography is also very important for a job in RRB Group D. The questions are mainly factual and time-sensitive, especially for current affairs.

Key Topics:

Make a routine. Read daily leading newspapers for at least 30 min. Make notes on current affairs for at least last 6 months.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Now after CBT 1, the most important segment is PET. Only CBT 1 qualified candidates are shortlisted for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The test is different for male and female candidates. You must complete it without assistance. Here is the PET criteria for both male and female.

PET checks your physical capability to perform railway-related duties. There are no marks awarded; candidates simply need to qualify.
